Al-Azhar University of Egypt and Istanbul Foundation for Science and Culture of Turkey will jointly organize an international conference, titled “Muslim Unity in the Light of Thoughts of Bediuzzaman Said Nursi” on February 26-27, 2013. The Opening Ceremony will be held in the Al-Azhar University Main Congress Hall at 10.00 pm on February 26 and then scientific sessions will be held in two different rooms during two days.
Bediuzzaman Said Nursi continuously stressed the importance of unity and solidarity and his two treatises want to draw attention to the principles of sincerity and brotherhood, “Treatise on Brotherhood” which explains causes of dispute among believers and “Treatise on Sincerity” which explains the importance of bonds of unity among believers. He emphasized sincerity and brotherhood as the most important factors in establishing union among believers. Nursi explained the link between alliance, union, and brotherhood and their virtues by saying “There is strength in union, life in alliance, and peace in brotherhood.”
When looking from this viewpoint, for union, brotherhood, and love to be truly established amongst the faithful, it is clear that significant attention must be given to the attainment of knowledge, education and learning. “Our enemies are ignorance, poverty and conflict. We shall wage holy war against these three enemies with the weapons of Industry, Learning and Unity” Bediuzzaman said, words that elucidate to us that his teachings are worth more perusal.
A total of 56 academicians from Egypt, Jordan, Algeria, Morocco, Lebanon, Yemen, Syria, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Ethiopia and Turkey will present papers in Arabic, exploring the topic “Muslim Unity in the Light of Thoughts of Bediuzzaman Said Nursi” under various sub-headings.
The symposium will be open to the public, and the opening is expected to be attended by the Al-Azhar Shayh Prof. Dr. Ahmed Ettayyib, the Shura Council President Prof. Dr. Ahmed Fehmi, Minister of Egyptian Foundations Prof. Dr. Talat Afifi, the Egyptian Ex-Mufti Prof. Dr. Ali Cuma, the Rector of Al-Azhar University Prof. Dr. Usame el-Abd, the Islamic Universities Union General Secretary Prof. Dr. Cafer Abdusselam, a prominent Egyptian Islamic thinker Prof. Dr. Muhammed Imara, the translator of the Risale-i Nur collection into Arabic Ihsan Kasim Salihi, and Mehmet Firinci, a living close student of Said Nursi, together with many other significant figures.
During the two-day symposium, an exhibition of documents and monuments attributed to the life of the author of the Risale-i Nur collection, Said Nursi, and his close students, will also be on display. The visitors will find original hand written pieces of his works and other original materials, letters to his students and official documents regarding his mission for the time period of 1927-1960. The exhibition will be open at the dates 26-27 February 2013, 10.00 am – 07.00 pm. The language of the exhibition will be in English and Arabic.

I am greeting you from Kerala , south India. I wish all success for this important conference which is a need of time. It is my pleasure to inform you that a booklet on the great son and warrior of Islam who dedicated his life for Islam had been published by our Islamic Publishing House in early seventies. It is a translation of the Arabic book written by Saeed Ramdhan Boothy . Shykh Saeed is my beloved Guru. I added one of his Risala on Prayer as a foreword in my book The Selected Prayers. In early seventies I had some contact with his student circle in U S A but unfortunately could not maintain it in certain circumstances.
